Sulphation (AGM and Gel Batteries Only)

Sulphation is the most common cause of early death in Nigerian AGM and gel batteries. It happens when a lead-acid battery is left in a partially discharged state for extended periods — which is extremely common during long cloudy seasons or NEPA outages when the battery is being used heavily without adequate recharging.

During sulphation, lead sulphate crystals form on the battery plates, reducing the surface area available for chemical reactions. The battery appears to charge normally but cannot store or deliver its rated capacity.
